International Workshop Opening: Industrial Heritage – A spark from the past reignite the future

The opening ceremony of International Worksop named “Industrial Heritage - Future from the past: Hanoi – HCMG Smart & Creative District Herigate and RE – USR" was kicked off at NUCE (12 January 2021). The project aims to modernize the space of the Gia Lam train factory. The workshop was organized under the collaboration of the Faculty of Architecture & Planning, Association of Urban Planning & Development (NUCE); SCE Project Asia and the Venice Association of Architects (VAA), UNESCO, the Italian Embassy in Hanoi and the Italian General Consulate in Ho Chi Minh City, and Italy-ASEAN Association.

The opening ceremony was hosted in the presence of Mr. Antonio Tedesco - First Secretary of the Italian Embassy in Vietnam, Architect Luigi Campanale - CEO of SCE Project Asia, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Hoang Giang - Vice-Rector of NUCE, Dr. Architect Truong Ngoc Lan - Vice Dean of Faculty of Architecture & Planning, all representatives of related units and 40 students and officials and teachers in charge. In addition, professors and architects who are teaching and working at some top institutions and universities around the world also attend the workshop online.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Hoang Giang expressed his sincere thanks to the Italian Embassy and co-organizers for their support and encouragement. Thanks to their assistance, the workshop was capable of being taken on schedule, albeit the objective challenging such as the complicated developments of the Covid-19 pandemic. However, in times of trouble, wise solutions will appear. The situation shows the great potential of a digital world and holds great promises for innovation. Giang also sends his best wishes for the new year 2021 to all participants, wishes the workshop success and looks forward to more events in the future.

Within the framework of the program, the students attending the workshop were surveyed and paid a field visit to Gia Lam Train Factory and R8 Factory Creative Space. They subsequently are divided into groups, working with instructors to share, present and implement their ideas into products which then would be pitched to the organizers on the last day of the event.

The Workshop was taken place from January 12 to 16 (2021), this professional activity help students gain practical knowledge, broaden their horizons, as well as promote the image of the Faculty and the University. Simultaneously, it is an opportunity to encourage further cooperation between NUCE and Italian universities and enterprises.
